Haworth, NJ Fence Planning & Permit Guide

In Haworth, fence openness and distance from the lot line can change the permitted height. Start with the survey and zoning review before choosing a privacy layout.

Haworth: openness and placement matter

Haworth requires a zoning permit before a fence is erected, with a survey or plan showing its location. Section 26-902.1 distinguishes closed and open fences: in residential zones, a closed fence can be up to four feet along a lot line, while a closed fence up to six feet must be at least ten feet from a lot line. An open fence can be up to six feet along a lot line. The front-yard restriction still applies; corner and through lots have additional front-yard areas.

Before choosing a privacy fence

Have the borough confirm which parts of your lot count as front, side and rear yards and whether the proposed design is open or closed under its rules. A six-foot privacy design should not be assumed permissible directly on the boundary. Show any slope, gates and existing structures on the proposed layout.

Read the Haworth fence ordinance, §26-902.1, then visit our Haworth fence installation page.

Plan your Haworth fence with Tico

Bring your survey, a few property photos and your goals to the estimate. We can compare vinyl fence installation, aluminum fence installation and wood fence installation, then discuss gate locations and access for the installation crew. Material choice does not by itself establish that a layout is permitted.

For winter planning, Tico’s firsthand experience is that aluminum and vinyl hold up best through New Jersey winters. We have also seen panels break when snow-removal companies pile snow against them. Ask your snow contractor to keep piles away from the fence.

Tico Fence is family-owned and has served North Jersey since 1998. Explore our Bergen County fence installation services and actual project photos. Request a free Haworth fence estimate or call 973-939-6373.
